'Sian is the unlucky thirteenth child in a Welsh coalminer's family. Life is hard; her mother died after giving birth to her and her father is grief-stricken. Sian's eldest sister hatches a plan to take them both far away, to find a better life. It will be a long voyage across the ocean, but Sian is looking forward to a new start in a country where the sun shines and she can go to school every day instead of picking coal scraps for pennies. The only problem is, no one must know about the great journey they are about to take.' (Publication summary)

'Captain Nemo meets Tuesday Next in the Aegean in 1875. Except that Captain Horatio Anson de la Terre, Royal Navy, isn’t exactly Captain Nemo, because it’s the Sisters Makiniri who have invented the submarine, not him. He just wants to sink the thing. Reddon, the spy, isn’t exactly James Bond either, despite his dinner jacket and diving suit. And, oh dear, the Russians are coming.
A little bit steampunk, a little bit Pratchett, a whole lot hilarious.' (Publication summary)

'Medieval warfare was fierce and bloody, and as combat techniques changed, arms and armour needed to become more sophisticated. It was the task of the blacksmith, and later the armourer, to find ways of defending against each new advance in warfare. Medieval armourers had to create better and better protective clothing and superior weaponry to make fighting men less vulnerable in battle. Talented artisans created everything from ring-mail and chain-mail to full body armour that a knight could turn somersaults in. It seemed that the art of the armourer had reached its highest level - until a revolutionary development in weaponry reduced it to so much scrap metal ...' (Publication summary)
