Bogdan Koca has been an actor, writer, director, designer,acting teacher and composer, who graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Theatrical Arts in 1975 and was later co-artistic director of both the Instrumental Theatre and the University Theatre, Wroclaw. He received acting awards for his work with Teatr Polski and also taught at the Wroclaw Drama Studio.
In Sydney Koca established the Thalia Theatre Company which performed a wide range of works by European playwrights and he has directed a diversity of dramatic productions ranging from Shakespeare's Hamlet to Gombrowicz' The Marriage at the Adelaide Festival of Arts in 1986 and Jean Genet's Splendid at the Belvior Street Theatre in 1995. In 1989 he received a nomination at the Australian Film Industry (AFI) Awards as best supporting actor for his role in Ghosts....of the Civil Dead and his drama My Name is Such and Such was nominated for a Green Room Award in 1994.
From 1994 -1997 he was Head of Acting at the University of Western Sydney and and subsequently directed productions such as Under Milk Wood, Antigone, Macbeth and Death in Venice.
In 1997 he founded the Sydney Art Theatre, of which he is artistic director, based at the Pilgrim Theatre in Sydney. He appeared as Solyony in The Three Sisters for the Sydney Theatre Company in 2001, as Professor Kurman in Biography: A Game with the Sydney Art Theatre and in 2003, Koca played the role of Bill in Rolf de Heer's film, Alexandra's Project.
