Laura Jones adapted novels by overseas writers to the screen including An Angel at My Table (1990), A Thousand Acres (1997), Angela's Ashes (1999), Possession, (2002) and Brick Lane (2007) as well as The Portrait of a Lady (1996) which was published as a screenplay in 1996. Awards include the 1990 New Zealand Film and TV Awards Best Screenplay and the 1990 New South Wales Premier's Literary Award Script Writing Award (co award) for An Angel at My Table and a Golden Satellite Award nomination in 1997 for Best Motion Picture Screenplay Adaptation for The Portrait of a Lady. Laura Jones also wrote scripts for television and television series in the 1970s and 1980s including for the ABC's Certain Women. She wrote an unfilmed screen adaptation of Jessica Anderson's novel Tirra Lirra by the River.
