'In the first story, ‘Gus meets Auntie Hazel’, Mr. and Mrs. Galah are very worried because Mrs. Galah had laid six eggs but the nest they have built is only big enough for five. When the babies hatch out, one of the chicks, Gus, who is very noisy and very nosy, falls out of his nest straight onto Auntie Hazel’s lap. What should Auntie Hazel do? 'The third story, ‘Gus and the Driftwood Puppy’, sees Gus looking out of Auntie Hazel’s window on a windy day. Suddenly Gus spots a little black puppy floating down the Swan River on a piece of driftwood. Without hesitation, Gus and Auntie Hazel rescue the puppy and return the puppy safely to the river bank where she is reunited with the puppy’s very relieved and grateful Mummy.' (Publication summary)
