BiographyHistory

After leaving Australia in 1917, having spent the previous seven years as the principal comedian and director/manager of Edward Branscombe's Red Dandies company, Claude Dampier returned to England via a tour of South Africa. He returned to Australia for Harry G. Musgrove (Harry Rickards Tivoli Theatres Ltd) in 1921 and later found engagements with Pat Hanna (Famous Diggers) and Fullers Theatres.

In January 1923 Dampier returned to the Tivoli circuit with his own revue company The Dandies of 1923 (aka The New Dandies/Claude Dampier's Dandies). Debuting in Adelaide, where Dampier had a strong following courtesy of his years with Branscombe, the entertainment offered by this troupe was similarly presented due to demands from the Adelaide public. By the following year, however, the troupe was renamed Claude Dampier's Trump Cards Revue Company, and began specialising in revusicals.
