The creation of La Fiamma has been attributed to the Cappuccini friars of Sydney who edited and published the newspaper. Francesco Ricatti has argued, however, that Guiseppe La Rosa, an Italian priest, suggested the idea and the characteristics of the paper, which was designed in reaction to the socialist newspaper Il Risveglio [see Embodying Migrants, p. 34, n. 18]
