BiographyHistory

Lorna Dixon lived in Bourke and recorded much of her language and her stories in the 70s. Dixon is the daughter of stockman Albert Ebsworth and Rosie Jones. Lorna Dixon was also related to George Dutton (q.v.) from her mother's side. During her lifetime, Dixon inspired many through her determination to survive and maintain Wangkumara language and culture. In 1974, Dixon was one of the first Aboriginal women to become a full member of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies in Canberra.
