BiographyHistory

Harry (Tiger) Buchanan was an Elder and custodian of traditional stories for the Gumbaynggir people. His initiation name was Maruwanba and his section name was Maruungga. He was the father of Neville Buchanan who is now the custodian of the Gumbaynggir people's stories. Harry Buchanan lived at Cow's Creek near Valla in NSW and had fourteen children. He was well respected by Indigenous and Non-Indigenous members of the public and also assisted with the recognition and conservation of sacred areas in NSW. He shared the stories he knew with many people including, T. Crowley, W. G.Hoddinott, Howard Creamer and Diana Eades.
