A young typist must forego a camping holiday with her friends at Southport to go to spend Christmas with her aunt and uncle. She buys a lottery ticket to give them but they despise money spent on frivolous things and so she dares not present it to them. She spends a lonely unhappy time at their home. Towards the end of her visit she discovers that her lottery ticket has won and she takes it to give to her Aunt but finds her Aunt checking her own tickets. Jill throws the ticket at her Aunt calling her a hypocrite.
