The boys of Burrajong School, let by Jim Smith, have established the Burrajong School Cricket Club and appointed a committee and fixed a membership fee. However, they have trouble finding the funds for their sports equipment. Joe Rowan, who has recently come from Melbourne to the district with his widowed mother, suggests that they make their own bats, wickets and balls.
