BiographyHistory

Gill Hicks AM has worked in London as a curator for the British Design Council. In 2005 she lost both her legs as a result of the bombings on the London Underground. She has since worked as an ambassador for the charity Peace Direct.

Hicks' memoir One Unknown : A Powerful account of Survival and One Woman's Inspirational Journey to a New Life was released in 2007.

In 2012, British playwright, Bryony Lavery created 'Thursday', a play based on Hicks' experiences. The play made its world premiere at the Adelaide Festival on 28 February, 2013.

In 2015, Hicks was awarded South Australian of the Year, and in 2016 became a Member of the Order of Australia.
