1 y separately published work icon Soak : UTS Writers’ Anthology UTS Press (editor), Sydney : Brio Books , 2023 27127505 2023 anthology poetry short story prose

'When the waves get rough and sea levels rise, there's only one thing to do: keep your head above water.

'Welcome to SOAK. Joining the proud legacy of the 'UTS Writers' Anthology, this edition seeks to make sense of a rapidly changing world facing its latest deluge.

'From underwater waterslides to dogs in space, internal struggles to climbing mountains, this collection of short stories, creative non-fiction and poetry brings ecocentrism, humour, creativity and resilience to the shore.

'Rich with diverse voices, this year's anthology shines a watery mirror to our current world and offers hope that despite the threats we face, we can still change the tide.

'Introduced by acclaimed literary critic Beejay Silcox, we invite you to immerse yourself in the emerging talent from one of Australia's most celebrated creative writing programs.' (Publication summary)

1 y separately published work icon Reading the Country : 30 Years On Philip Morrissey (editor), Chris Healy (editor), Broadway : UTS Press , 2019 14554808 2019 anthology criticism

'Steeped in story-telling and endlessly curious, Reading the Country: An Introduction to Nomadology (1984) was the product of Paddy Roe, Stephen Muecke and Krim Benterrak, experimenting with what it might be like to think together about country. In the process a senior traditional owner, a cultural theorist and a painter produced a text unlike any other. Reading the Country: 30 Years On is a celebration of one of the great twentieth-century books of intercultural dialogue. Recalling a spirit of intellectual risk and respect, in this collection, Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars, poets, writers and publishers both acknowledge the past and look, with hope, to future transformations of culture and country.'

1 y separately published work icon Locating Suburbia Paula Hamilton (editor), Paul Ashton (editor), Broadway : UTS Press , 2013 7694529 2013 anthology single work essay prose autobiography

'Suburbia has been satirised and mocked by the best of them from George Orwell’s 1939 caricature in Coming up for Air to Dame Edna Everidge from the 1960s and TV’s Kath and Kim in twentieth-first century Australia. For many of the generation growing up in the twentieth century, suburbia is, on the one hand, the remembered nightmare from which the human chrysallis escaped to experience adulthood and its pleasures elsewhere – he stifling, conformist sameness which nonetheless hid evil deeds like murder. Others hold dear the wistful nostalgic memories about growing up in a domesticated cosy world of backyard games so effectively mobilised by conservative Prime Minister John Howard during the 1990s in relation to Earlwood, a suburb of Sydney.' 'Eleanor Dark (1901-1985) is one of Australia's most celebrated writers of the inter-war years. Born with the twentieth century - a Federation baby - she published ten novels, amongst them one of the best loved Australian stories of all time, The Timeless Land. Her life spanned successive global crises - two world wars, the economic depression of the 1930s, the Cold War - each issuing its own challenges to the artist and the people's writer she thought herself to be. By far the most privileged writer of her generation, her ultimate challenge was a personal one: to unlock the gates of her world-proof life to a society and a world in crisis. The first cross-cultural biography of this famous Australian writer, Marivic Wyndham's rich and controversial portrait of Eleanor Dark is based on extensive research of the author's public and private lives.
