Eva Strangways was born out in the bush at Immarna Siding in South Australia, her mother is a full Antikirinja and her father is Kookatha. Eva Strangway's father was a head stockman and they used to live in the pastoral stations of Wilgena and Tarcoola. She grew up with her extended family mostly along the Transcontinental railway line, travelling around pastoral stations with camel wagons undertaking casual work.
