1 Cognitive Understanding of the Name Taboo in Australian Indigenous 'Dreaming' Worldview Hui Leng , Yi-fei Fu , Ai-jing Jin , 2015 single work criticism
— Appears in: Journal of Xihua University , 5 November vol. 34 no. 6 2015; (p. 38-42)
'The mysterious and unique Australian Aboriginal 'Dreaming' worldview embraces the ancient and complicated name taboo of the deceased people. Violating the taboo often causes miscommunication. By referring to the reports on the death of the Yothu Yindi lead singer Yunupingu, this paper expounds that while it is impoetant to stick to the physical facts about the reported Indigenous singer, it is more important for the media to respect the Indigenous people's culture by abiding by their Dreamtime worldview and reveal to the public the relationship between their name taboo inherent in their totemic worship, so as to achieve the purpose of mass communication. This paper thus proposes the approach to understanding Australian Indigenous Dreamtime worldviews as their cognitive models. This cognitive approach exceeds the conventional interpretation of unfamiliar culture phenomena as so-called 'primitive, superstitious, or weird', by exploring into their folk knowledge structure for their value systems, so as to understand the spiritual richness of the Australian Indigenous culture and behavior. 1 世界观的认知机制:解读《卡彭塔利亚湾》中隐性连贯语篇现象 Hui Leng , 2014 single work criticism
— Appears in: 外语与外语教学 , vol. [2014] no. 3 2014; (p. 11-16)

'Based on Chapter One of Carpentaria by the Australian Aboriginal writer Alexis Wright, and through examining the seemingly incoherent language features, the present study has found that Australian Aboriginal "Dreaming" worldview not only underpins the writer’s mental coherence, it also underlies her discourse coherence, that is, Aboriginal "Dreaming" worldview has the iconic relevance with her discourse world. It is maintained that only by understanding the writer’s "Dreaming" worldview and by taking it as a cognitive structure achieving the reader’s interaction with the writer and with the text, can the reader sort out the coherence embedded in the unconventional text to construe a coherent story world with the incoherent language material. "Dreaming " worldview enables the reader to understand the theme, appreciate the literature effect and experience aesthetic feelings.
