Description

This subject immerses students in the techniques and theory of writing in dramatic form. Writing strategies for theatre and film will be examined and a variety of dramatic structures will be explored, including linear and non-linear traditions of plotting or thematic development. Craft skills such as characterisation, dialogue, mise en scene, and dramaturgy are discussed and practiced in the workshop situation. Students complete a 10 page playscript and a 10 page screenplay, are encouraged to master, but also challenge conventions, and to explore collective modes of workshopping, dramaturgy, editing, as well as drafting and editing their own writing.
