'After experiencing a happy childhood near Ballarat, Liz Bartley's life is turned into turmoil when her father dies and her mother marries the cruel Mr Fotheringill. Things get even worse, when her dear brother George runs away from home. As the years pass by and Liz moves to the beautiful city of Adelaide, life becomes more complicated with a series of disastrous relationships and murder.
'Everybody has a breaking point and at almost fifty, Liz is seeing a psychiatrist, Sean Miller, who becomes her friend, as week by week he listens to her life story. Along with her good neighbour Ann Morton and Adam Shaw, an English tourist she meets one day by the River Torrens, Liz is starting to get her life back on track.
'Adam returns to his home on the island of Jersey and asks Liz to visit him for a holiday. Could this be the changing point for Liz or will she always be haunted by the past?' (Publication summary)
