BiographyHistory

Barrister and music theatre aficionado Simon Chan founded The Other Production Company in 2003 while undertaking a Graduate Diploma of Music at the Queensland University of Technology. The first work to be produced was his cabaret-revue I Must Stop Looking at Men. The company has worked in association with a number of South-East Queensland-based theatre companies and has also revived Chan's most popular work, The Velveteen Rabbit (2001) on several occasions.

Although the company was largely responsible for producing Chan's other original music theatre works, in 2005 it oversaw a production of the Jonathan Harvey/Pet Shop Boys musical Closer to Heaven at the Visy Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse (9-18 June).

Chan also established Evelyn and Joseph Design, an offshoot design operation of The Other Production Company.
