Description

In this course you will examine Australian cinema through the close reading of films in relation to questions of “national cinemas” and identities. You will explore issues such as neglected periods of Australian film (such as the 1950s and 1960s), and the reconfiguring of identity in ’recent’ Australian cinema (Indigenous, feminist, multicultural and queer). A number of concerns are explored, in particular concepts of ’national cinema’, Australian cinema history, and the Australian film Industry. There is also a focus on broader questions of film culture, and underanalysed aspects of Australian cinema.
