A wicked witch schemes with demons to bring about the downfall of Little Red Riding Hood. She begins the nefarious plan by casting a spell that brings the little girl into disgrace at school and she is expelled. Her parents pack her off to her grandmother's. It is there that she meets the wolf in disguise.

Notes

  • Although generally described as a pantomime, the production was advertised as having "plenty of music and songs" but would be 'more of a musical play than a pantomime' (Green Room February 1920, p.7). Comprising some eighty children, with a few adults cast in appropriate roles, the producer, Reuben Baker, proposed that during the second week of the season a different local girl would play the role of Red Riding Hood, and that at the end of the week the one who was judged the most clever would get a substantial prize in addition to her pay envelope.
