  • This poem is published at the end of a column headed 'Rejected Verses'. The editor explains the reasons behind the rejection of many submitted poems - one of these is that, having read the poem, the reader asks, "What is it all about?". The editor ends the column: 'Here is a little bit ['The Lone One'] that speaks for itself, and requires neither "touching up" nor apology'.
