Notes

  • Editor's note (preceding poem): '"Our Whatnot". – This receptacle for "things to be thought of", often gets full before we can get time to dispose of the literary (or illiterary) plethora. Upon taking a spell over some of the contents the other day, we met with the following gem; and as punsters sometimes derive the greatest amusement from the most grotesque examples, it occurred to us that, upon the same principle, so unique a production was entitled to the benefit of our "verbatim" arrangement.'
