BiographyHistory

British actor and dramatists Henry Pettitt created a substantial body of very successful works, many in collaboration with G. R. Sims. He also wrote several works with Augustus Harris. Among his best known plays are: In the Ranks (1883), The Harbour Lights (1885), and Master and Man (1889). His musical burlesques with Sims for London's Gaiety Theatre include Faust Up to date (1888), and Carmen Up to Date (1890). The music for both productions was composed by Meyer Lutz. Pettitt's play, Burmah, was produced on Broadway in 1896, some three years after his death.
