A review of the Royal Victoria Theatre, Sydney, performance of the play on 13 September 1838. In this review, the author (William Kerr?) mentions that the play '... was an unpublished one, and consequently required to be licensed by Mr. Thomson, the Colonial Secretary, before it could be produced on the stage ...'

Mr. Peck's Benefit, single work advertisement

Advertisement for benefit performance for Mr Peck on 15 September 1838 to 'the celebrated Operatic Legendary Drama, with the original Music, by Carl Maria Von Webber, in three Acts, entitled Der Freischultz' and the 'Farce, called the 100 Pound Note'. The performance included dance and comic songs 'The Grapes of Blarney', 'The Devil & the Waterman Fireman', and Mordecai's Courtship'. The advertisement includes a description of the scenes and a list of the actors and the names of the characters they portray for each play.The Der Freischultz production was advertised as 'the first real opera.'

Royal Victoria Theatre : Miss Lazar's Benefit, single work advertisement

An advertisement for performance for the benefit of Miss Lazar on 18 September 1838 to include a 'Mythological Musical Burlesque Burletta, by Joseph Graves, Esq., performed at the Strand Theatre upwards of one hundred Nights, entitled Cupid', the 'grand Historical Drama, in three Acts, called Gustavus the Third' and the 'Nautical Burletta of Billy Taylor'. The program included songs and dances. The advertisement includes a description of the scenes and a list of the actors, and the names of the characters they portray, for each play. The advertisement fills more than one column of the newspaper.
