Notes

  • Translation of the French play Le Docteur Noir by Anicet-Bourgeois and Dumanoir.
  • There were two translations into English of this French drama - one by Bridgeman and another by Thomas Archer. It is probable that the version produced in Sydney in 1868 was the Bridgeman translation.
  • The Black Doctor is included in AustLit because it was produced in Australian theatres during the colonial era.

Production Details

  • First produced at the Royal City of London Theatre, 9 November 1846.

  • Performed at the Royal Victoria Theatre, Sydney, June 1868.
