BiographyHistory

Hollywood silent-film actress and script-writer Bess Meredyth travelled to Australia early in her career with her then husband, director Wilfred Lucas. Together, they made three films with Australian settings and subjects, before returning to Hollywood the following year.

Stephen Vagg suggests in an article in Lumina ('A Brief History of Screenwriting', 2007) that Meredyth may have been the first full-time professional script-writer to work in Australia (while acknowledging the previous work of Agnes Gavin and Lottie Lyell).
