Writing: Text and Context (CWPG815)
Semester 2 / 2011

Description

In this unit students research and write a number of creative nonfiction pieces, which can include memoir, personal essay, writing about place and the literary essay. We consider what creative non-fiction is, looking at the varied contexts in which creative non-fiction texts are written, with a focus on Australian writing and publishing. Students consider the diverse cultural contexts in which contemporary creative non-fiction is published and debated. Primary research skills and narrative techniques are a focus of the unit, with assessment based on a combination of practical research tasks and the students' writing of creative non-fiction. This course will challenge students to devise their own topics and to develop their skills in the writing of non-fiction.
