This unit focuses on writing short narratives in various forms and styles. It develops students understanding of how to write creatively and professionally for different audiences and in different registers. It develops strategies for writing and knowledge of the elements of narrative such as theme, form, characterisation, dialogue, point of view and style. Students will be given opportunities to experiment with different writing styles, to take risks, and will be encouraged to develop their own voice and approach to writing short narratives. Students will read a number of short works as a way to contextualise their own practice, to reflect creatively on how best to communicate to different audiences, and to develop a critical language with which to discuss writing.
This unit is co-taught with Writing Short Narratives G.
