This unit examines the status and role of immigrants in Australian society: cultural, educational and professional issues they face. It introduces students to the composition of Australian population, as well as the challenges faced by immigrants and their children in adapting to a new country and its way of life. Opportunities to explore the interface between the mainstream Australian society and the range of ethnic minorities are provided. Students will gain enhanced understandings and awareness required for operating effectively in a culturally diverse society such as Australia.
