Disappointed in William Vivian Butter's The Durable Desperadoes: A Critical Study of Some Enduring Heroes (1973), Chandler offers his opinion on some of the fictional heroes the author fails to acknowledge - including Burrough's Tarzan, Charteris's The Saint and Fleming's James Bond.
