'Imagine a place where belief in gods and the usage of magic have been outlawed, replaced by a worship of and obsession with the written word. The population of the Kingdom of Thuraen (Thur-ain) is illiterate except for an army of sages who record all day to day happenings. Truth Keepers police the cities and townships in a role similar to the city watch. More importantly, the Truth Keepers also act as guardians of the western border. East of Thuraen resides an elf-like race called the sylva, a mixture of skilled archers and magic using druids. The sylva rescued from slavery the humans who live within the Kingdom of Thuraen. As a gift the sylva gave to the humans the land that is Thuraen and taught to them the written word. West of Thuraen resides a race with canine features called the vorsurk. The vorsurk once lived in the land where the humans now reside, keeping humans and sylva as slaves but they were pushed back to the desert in the west by the sylva, assisted by uprising human slaves. Truth Keeper Raven, a citizen of Thuraen arrives at the gates of the kingdom’s capital Andrapaal after a number of years away. He travels with a sylva named Paechra (Pe-ch-ra) who is seeking her father. Together they discover that one of the many trusted sages of Thuraen is using forbidden vorsurk magic to become Chief Sage and manipulate the kingdom. The story is mainly told through the actions of Raven, Paechra and a sage named Morthos. The main themes covered in this novel are father son and father daughter relationships, faith, betrayal, alcoholism, kidnapping and murder.'
