19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
The Handbook of Western Australia was set out like a newspaper with articles, illustrations and poetry on the subject of "'The Great West' of Australia." All documents extol the virtue of this "new" colony. One brief section, titled "Around Australia," (reprinted from The Age newspaper) could be classified as travel writing – it described J.B's journey around Australia, with particular emphasis on Western Australia. The author notes the society of the colony, and its potential as a centre for agriculture.
