Affiliation Notes

  • 19th-Century Australian Travel Writing

This lavishly illustrated tourists' guide to Tasmania, published for Thomas Cook and Son, presents a concise description of the state of Tasmania, with particular emphasis on the recent Tasmanian International Exhibition. After a historical overview of the colony, the work details the island's attractions for the potential tourist, and is regularly interspersed with related advertisements for Tasmanian products, businesses and hotels. The work covers the whole of the island, and is not so much travel writing as a guide for those who wish to travel themselves.
