Marcia McPherson was educated at Sydney Girls' High School, the University of Sydney and the Australian National University. She graduated from ANU with a BA and a Master of Letters in English Literature.
McPherson has taught English and Drama at schools in Canberra, New South Wales and Queensland. She is married to James McPherson.
