'Those of us who leave, who forge new lives abroad, eventually feel an irrepressible need to return. We are pulled back home (and it is always still home) by an invisible current. Our memories-distilled and distorted by time and now unblemished-colour what we see in the Belgrade of our youth as we look for answers to a question that burns until it is all-consuming: why? Why did we leave, and did leaving change our lives for the better?
